If there’s one sneaker style we reach for time and time again, it has to be a pair of fresh white kicks. Like a plain white tee, a minimal sneaker is a staple that’s always reliable, adaptable and has a certain knack for making any outfit effortlessly cool (and comfy, obviously).
To get you inspired for your next purchase – and that satisfying new shoe feeling – we spoke to crèmm campaign stylist Jade Leung about this season’s key looks.
Hey Jade, thanks for the chat.
Tell us, do you think white sneakers will ever go out of fashion?
I think thanks to iconic styles like the Converse Chuck Taylor, it’s unlikely there’ll ever come an end to the white sneaker. It’s an item of clothing that’s so ingrained in our everyday lives and even pop culture. For example, we saw the adidas Stan Smith have a major resurgence in 2017, and then throughout 2018 and 2019 the white dad sneaker had a massive moment. Seasonally we’ll continue to see it change and adapt, so I think it’ll stick around.
What sneakers are you currently wearing?
I’ve been wearing my Cons – I bought a fresh pair of white high tops to wear with summer dresses. I just went traveling overseas and wore them everyday.
What’s the key to styling white sneakers with suiting and more tailored styles? They are so versatile and easy to style. I would primarily say to be mindful of pant length and silhouette. If you’re wearing a longer, wider leg I’d suggest going for a sleeker and cleaner style of shoe. However, I’d go for a chunkier sneaker with cropped pants or straight legs so you can show a bit of ankle and add proportion.
Tell us about how you styled the footwear in the new crèmm campaign? I styled most of the sneakers with a really fresh, minimal clothing palette to keep the silhouettes light and clean. I mixed in some nice linens and textures to show how to wear a white sneaker for a variety of occasions.
Walnut Melbourne Empire Canvas Sneaker $69.95
Among all the plain white, Gee Gee’s star print Walnut Melbourne sneakers suit her youth and vibrancy. I teamed them with a cute asymmetrical denim skirt to add a bit more personality to the look.
Windsor Smith - Womens Racerr $149.99
The tonal Boiler suit is my favorite look for this summer. It’s simple, but stylish when finished off with the right white sneaker. I dressed Mercy in a platformed sneaker from Windsor Smith, with a touch of metal hardware.
Vans Old Skool True White $119
I put Matt in cropped linen pants and a denim shirt for a slightly dressier take on the usual Vans aesthetic. A skate shoe doesn’t always have to be super casual and can be dressed up or down.
Superga Womens 2790 Platform - 901 White $99.99
901 WHITE Georgah looks great in a classic mom jean, and the outfit is elevated with the addition of an all-white platform Superga sneaker. A ribbed tee with detailing keeps the look minimal, but not boring.
